Following a 1-3 (0-1) loss to Union Berlin on Sunday evening, Amiri evaded questions about his future during a “DAZN” interview. With vague responses like “I don’t know” and “I don’t understand,” he left Mainz fans uncertain whether they might lose another fan favorite, following Jonathan Burkardt’s exit last year. Amiri has been instrumental in the club’s positive trajectory over the past two seasons.
Sporting director Niko Bungert tried to project calm: “We are very relaxed about the situation. Neither Nadiem nor any club has signaled that a change is imminent. Every transfer window brings speculation about Nadiem, but he remains here and is happy.”
Amiri’s market value has surged from €4 million to a peak of €20 million (currently €17 million) since his move.
