Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has agreed to a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2028. The decision comes after Barcelona secured their 29th La Liga title with a victory over Real Madrid on Sunday—Flick’s second league championship in two seasons with the team.

The 61-year-old German was already under contract for the 2026-27 campaign but has now committed to an additional year, with an option for a further season. “I’m really happy about this,” Flick said. “They have given me and my team the confidence to work one or two years more.”

Barcelona clinched the title with three matches to spare and now have a chance to finish the season on 100 points. “Many coaches would be happy to get a three-, four-, or five-year contract, but in Barcelona’s case, it’s good to keep it limited. I truly appreciate that,” Flick added. “We go to 2028, and then we’ll see if everything is right. If so, we can decide on one more year. The club has the right, and I have the right—I think it’s a good deal.”

Over the weekend, Flick’s father passed away, and a minute’s silence was observed before Sunday’s match.

Flick replaced Xavi as Barcelona head coach in the summer of 2024 and also led the team to Copa del Rey glory in his first season. Before joining Barcelona, he spent two years as Germany national team coach after a stint at Bayern Munich from 2019 to 2021, where he won the Bundesliga in both seasons, as well as the Champions League and Club World Cup in 2020.
