According to reports from Le Parisien citing sources, PSG head coach Luis Enrique plans to rest several first-team players ahead of the UEFA Champions League final against London side Arsenal. As a result, 19-year-old goalkeeper Renato Marin started between the posts, having also featured from the beginning in the previous match against Lorient (2-2 draw).

Earlier reports from RMC Sport indicated that Safonov had been dealing with a calf muscle issue. The Russian shot-stopper missed significant training before the second-leg semifinal against Bayern Munich (1-1) due to persistent pain that had troubled him since the first leg. Additionally, PSG’s other goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier, is sidelined for several weeks with an injury and missed the Brest match.

In the current season, the 27-year-old Russian has made 24 appearances, conceding 25 goals and keeping 11 clean sheets for the Parisian side.
